response to KMicha about extending PublishedIn to data tables -- JEG (talk) 14:50, 8 June 2017 (PDT)
@KMicha: in response to "The LiPD data structure only supports one Publication, that is normally used for referring to the publication describing the data", such is not the case, though you could be forgiven for not knowing it. In fact, many datasets currently on the wiki have more than one associated pub; see Ocn-BermudaSouthShore.Goodkin.2008, which has 3.
You could add as many pubs as you want, but it is true that at present the scope of the Property:PublishedIn_(L) is limited to dataset (i.e., you can attach a pub to the top level of a LiPD file, but not to individual tables). The application you suggest here for LiPD to store documentary information is a perfect example of the flexible nature of LiPD and the ontology, and I'd like to suggest that you file a formal request for an extension of the ontology so that here. (for more details, the full editorial process is described here).
In your request, please mention the need to "rescope" Property:PublishedIn_(L) so that it can apply to data tables as well as datasets. We'll take it from there.
Thanks for participating in this process and suggesting new ways for us to serve the community! JEG (talk) 14:50, 8 June 2017 (PDT)
